Characteristics
Adhesives and sealants are non-metallic substances that bond to the surface of the substrates to be bonded or sealed and that possess enough inherent strength themselves. After they have been applied in a liquid or thixotropic state, a chemical or physical reaction will take place. This reaction will occur due to the drainage of moisture or solvents, the impact of humidity or the mixing of two components.
All products have their own particular characteristics that make them suitable for use in specific fields of application. Due to the diversity in chemical bases, reactions and application methods, adhesive bonding and sealing is a technique that can be seamlessly geared to the choice of materials combined with the requirements for use and the production possibilities.
A special product group within Simsons range is the Silyl Modified Polymer (SMP) technology. This technology combines the stable strength of polyurethane and the unparalleled weather resistance of silicones. As the global market leader, Simson develops a wide product range of SMP adhesives and sealants that meets the wishes and requirements of modern, demanding industries.
The characteristics of an adhesive bond or sealing solution:
• Equal distribution of strength due to continuous bonding
• Increased fatigue strength
• No weakening of base materials due to perforations
• Adhesive bonds can also be used for sealing
• Lighter construction
• Smooth surface
• Possibility of flexible bonds
• Possibility of galvanic separation (to protect unequal types of material against corrosion)
• Possibility of electrical conduction or insulation
• Often invisible
• Interruption of heat/cold bridges
• Easy application
• Simple auxiliary equipment
